Tavern Tuesday: Hot Toddy

Lets face it, folks.  It’s Tuesday evening and it’s time for a drink. This week at Fantasy Tavern, we’re in the mood for something tasty, but of wintery substance (since the time is running out for said drinks).  Oh, and also something we can get drunk off of despite having the early stages of a cold. Well look no further, folks.  It’s time for a Hot Toddy.

By name it doesn’t sound very masculine.  In fact it sounds like a chick British pop group.  But in reality, the Hot Toddy is a true man’s man drink (with lemon and honey of course).  First off, it has whiskey in it. Second, it’s hot (as if you couldn’t tell by the name). Lastly, it’s something to get fucked up on when you’re feeling a little fucked up.

Plus the ingredients are rather simple to make one.

1 tablespoon of honey

1/2 ounce lemon juice

1 cup of hot water

1 1/2 ounces of whiskey

Lemon wedge, cinnamon stick, star anise for garnish

If you’re not afraid of microwaves slowly killing you with radiation poison then start by heating up a cup of water. If you are one of them fancy lads that needs to heat things on the stove than do that instead.  Then add the whiskey. Ingredients call for one classic shot glass full of dark liquor (1 and 1/2 ounces), but FanTav’s Commish encourages at least two of these instead.  Then add a tablespoon of honey and squeeze a legitimate lemon wedge into the drink and drop that wedge in there.  The directions I looked up said that you could replace this wedge with a cinnamon stick or star anise, but I have no idea what a star anise even is.

Now that the drink has been concocted, let it simmer for around 5 minutes.  The ingredients will all slowly blend together creating a hard drink with a sweet, lemony finish.  Oh, and since you’re drinking water without any artificial ingredients, you will also be able to drink these all night hangover free.

Enjoy the toddy.  Speaking of which….it’s time to get Namath drunk. Now give me a kiss, Suzy.
