FanTav’s Spirit of the Week: Cigar City Brewing’s Jai Alai

Lets face it, folks.  It’s Monday evening and it’s time for a drink. This week at Fantasy Tavern, in our inaugural segment for “Spirit of the Week”, we travel to Tampa, Florida aka the Cigar City where we will enjoying a pint of their most famous local brew, Cigar City Brewing’s Jai Alai. Named after the Spanish sport that used to frequent the Tampa Bay area, Jai Alai is not only an award winning beer, including winner of the  2010 Best Florida Beer Championship’s Gold Medal and 2011 Best Florida Beer Championship’s Silver Medal, it’s also packs a punch with an ABV of 7.5%. Seriously, you can get Joe Namath drunk off of a six pack of things.

I’m no beer aficionado when it comes to describing the taste, so I’ll leave that to the fine people at Cigar City:

Pours copper in color with notes of citrus and tropical fruit in the aroma. Flavor has upfront citrus bitterness with a hint of caramel and citrus and tropical fruit hop notes in the finish.

I don’t know about you, but right about now that sounds pretty fucking delicious if you ask me. My only minor complaint about this beverage, which scored a 99 out of 100 on ratebeer.com, is that it tastes so good that you likely can’t drink just one and will end up hungover off of the sweet nectar. If you ever visit the Tampa Bay area, please stop by one of Cigar City’s three locations and enjoy an assortment of yearlong and seasonal beverages that may make you a bit wet in areas beside your palate. I’d tell you to tell them that the Commish sent you, but honestly they wouldn’t know what you’re talking about.

Speaking of which….it’s time to get Namath drunk. Now give me a kiss, Suzy.
